1. RACE ORGANISORS a. The race is organized by the O’KeefeFoundation in memory of FF Patrick O'Keefe and all those lost on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center b. Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, Schedule of Events, Scratch Sheet, Race Results, and other information will be posted on the website www.SpiritRider.org 2. RULES a. The regatta will be governed by rules as defined by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 and U.S. Sailing Prescriptions 3. ELIGIBILITY a. This race is open to all boats powered by sails over 23 feet. b. It is the responsibility of each skipper to assess the appropriateness and skills of crew and condition of the boat to participate. 4. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS a. A competed entry form with the entry fee of $125 per boat must be received by the Race Committee prior to the start of the race. b. A completed Standard Waiver and Medical release form must be submitted for each participating boat. c. The entry forms and fee must be received by the Race Committee at 15 Baylis Place, Lynbrook, New York 11563 no later than August 20. Checks are to be made payable to The O’KeefeFoundation. d. Late entries may be accepted by the Race Committee. To inquire about registering after the cutoff date listed above, contact the Regatta Chairperson. The late entry fee will be $135 per boat. 5. REGISTRATION AND SAILING INSTRUCITONS a. All Skippers must appear in person at the registration table during the registration period, Friday from 1600 to 2000 at a location to be announced. Sailing instructions will be posed on the race website, www.SpiritRider.org and will be available at the registration desk. b. A Captains' meeting will be held on Friday for the purpose of providing a review of sailing instructions, dissemination of the scratch sheet, review of weather and sea conditions, and other administrative matters. 6. EQUPMENT AND WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS a. All boats must conform to their respective classes rules and any applicable measurement rules. Boats are subject to inspection by the organizing committees at any time during the event. b. Some or all competitors in classes with minimum weight restrictions may be required to weigh in during the event. 7. SCHEDULE a. One race is scheduled. The times of any warning signals to be given will be determined at the Captain's meeting on Friday. b. The schedule of events will be posted on the website www.SpriitRider.org 8. RACE AREA a. The Race will take place Off Long Beach between East Rockaway Inlet and Jones Inlet 9. SCORING a. The race will be scored using PHRF system. Racers do not need a PHRF rating to participate. A rating will be assigned by the race committee. However, the race committee may require a valid YRA LIS rating. 10. PROTESTS a. Upon finishing a boat intending to protest shall as soon as possible, notify the race committee of intent to protest and the sail number of the protested boat. 11. MOORINGS AND LAUNCH SERVICE a. All boats requiring mooring or launch service most so indicate on the race application and submitted prior to August 30. b. Slips and mooring are available for participating boats. 12. HOUSING, MEALS AND LOCAL TRANSPORTATION a. Housing will be provided for the night(s) of Friday and Saturday for any contestant indicating a need for such accommodations. Contestants must notify the organizing chairman as soon as possible of the request. b. Breakfast will be provided by the housing host or as you choose. c. A buffet dinner will be provided by the Race Committee following the Captains Meeting on Friday. d. Regatta desk will provide hospitality for visitors on the beach during the race. e. The Awards Dinner will be held following the race on Saturday. f. Local transportation will be provided by the housing host if required. 13. AWARDS a. Awards will be presented to the top 3 finishers on adjusted time in each division. b. The Oak Memorial Trophy will be presented to the deserving racer who embodies the Spirit of Brotherhood. The winner of the trophy shall have possession of the trophy for one year as is responsible for have the trophy engraved and returned to the regatta venue the following year. c. The St. Brendan the Navigator Trophy is awarded by the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Long Beach to the crew who most embody the essence of sportsmanship in the field of Yacht Racing. d. The Corinthian Trophy is sponsored by the family of George C. Crocker. Commencing in 1983 this trophy is awarded to the crew of the winning intercollegiate Yacht. The trophy is intended to develop interest in among young people in the sport of ocean racing in a cruising type sailboat. Awarded to the best collegiate performance. The sailing organization known as the Corinthians has sponsored this trophy to be awarded as part of the Spirit Rider Regatta. 14. RESPONSIBLY FOR SAFETY a. As a condition of the participation of any boat in any race or related activity sponsored or undertaken by the O’KeefeFoundation, Inc. The owner, helmsperson and each crew member agree that the safety of the boat and the sea and the decision whether or not to start of continue the race is sole their responsibly. Each of them waives all claims which he or she, or any heir, representative, successor or assignee, may have against the O’KeefeFoundation, Inc. and each of their officers, trustees, members, committees, employees or agents, arising out of or in any way connected with participation in such race or activity. Responsibility for evaluation wind, sea and weather conditions rest with each competitor as does the responsibility for the safe condition and operation of their boat including safety equipment and rigging and for wearing a life jacket. Assistance from the race committee, committee boat, or other support boats and from persons aboard them is at the risk of the participant. www.spiritrider.org is the website for the Spirit Rider Regatta.
